Veterans Outreach Representative – Congressman Mike Bost (R-IL)

Job Summary:  Primary responsibilities as a Veterans Outreach Representative include acting as a liaison between the Congressional Office and the veterans community, representing the office at public functions, and facilitating responses to a wide range of casework requests from military and veteran constituents.   Outreach coordinators often interact with administrative and government agencies on behalf of constituents and keep the Congressional Office informed on local issues relating to military and veterans affairs.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  The individual in this position will serve as a facilitator between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.  They will represent the Congressman and the office at public events related to veterans and military affairs across the 12th Congressional District.  The employee will be required to communicate clearly with constituents regarding case work issues or regarding the Congressman’s policy positions.  The case worker will be required to learn the laws, regulations and intricacies affecting a constituent’s case, as well as the procedures of the Congressman’s office, as outlined in the Office Handbook and the House of Representatives’ Ethics Manual.  The individual will represent the Congressman at meetings and functions hosted by local VSOs to gather information on items of interest to our constituents, provide updates on the activities of the Congressman on topics of importance to the VSOs, and report on recommendations and concerns raised at the various meetings for review by the office.   Additionally, the employee will be responsible to perform other duties as assigned by the Congressman, Chief of Staff, District Director and other staff members.

Requirements:  This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service and have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required.  Professional education through the U.S. military is highly encouraged, with recent experience understanding the U.S. Military and Department of Veterans’ Affairs structure, procedures and policies.  Excellent communication and organizational skills and a comfort with accurately representing the Congressman and his viewpoints at public events are important.  A service-minded, team-oriented, and positive attitude is a must.”
