Senator Chris Coons is looking for a talented and energetic public relations professional to serve as his State Press Secretary in Wilmington, Delaware. ·         Evaluates current events and media reports in the district, the state of Ohio and the nation for their impact on the Congresswoman;
·         Provides ideas and advice on the effect the Congresswoman’s actions and legislative activities have in the media;
·         Manages all website and new media to ensure accurate, timely availability of information;
·         Oversees the creation and distribution of the Congresswoman’s newsletters and questionnaires;
·         Meets attendance requirements as established by the office;
·         Maintains a good working relationship with the Congresswoman, staff, media, and constituents;
·         Works well under pressure and tight deadlines, and handles stress well;
·         Accepts performance-based constructive criticism and direction;
·         Provides timely reports of activities; and
·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or a closely-related field preferred, but not required, including strong academic credentials; and at least two years of congressional experience. Alternatively, a minimum of two years of related experience or training is required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

·         Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills;

·         Strong communication skills;

·         Understanding of and ability to manage print, broadcast, and online media;

·         Strong new media knowledge of how to manage and maximize the Congresswoman’s new media presence;

·         Thorough knowledge of the legislative process, procedures and organization of the Congress and the Ohio Legislature;

·         Knowledge of legislative issues for press purposes, especially those within the Congresswoman’s legislative priorities;

·         Ability to work cooperatively with the Legislative Team to maximize the Congresswoman’s media presence and effectiveness with the press;

·         Knowledge of current issues and events in which the Congresswoman is involved;

·         Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the representation of the Congresswoman’s position on policy issues;

·         Strong professional contacts with national press outlets and media personalities and willingness to continuously expand contacts for the benefit of the Congresswoman;

·         Ability to proactively anticipate the press needs of the Congresswoman;

·         Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;

·         Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;
