Military Legislative Assistant – Mid-Atlantic Senate Republican

A Mid-Atlantic Republican Senator is seeking a temporary military legislative assistant (MLA) to full-in for current staff being deployed. Senior California Republican seeks Military Legislative Assistant responsible for pursuing the member’s legislative priorities as they relate to U.S. national security. California’s 25th Congressional District is closely tied to both the U.S. military and the defense industrial base. The MLA works closely with local installations, industry stakeholders, and the Pentagon to ensure proper oversight of operations in the congressional district. Additionally, the MLA will work closely with the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) and other committees of jurisdiction.  The candidate should have previous legislative experience working with either the United States Congress or Department of Defense. The Candidate must have working knowledge of the military and defense industrial base. Previous military service is not required but preferred. ·  Work directly with senior Department of Defense (DoD) officials in order to conduct oversight of the department and evaluate policies pertaining to the U.S. national security strategy.

·  Advise the member on all issues affecting the DoD, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and various U.S. intelligence agencies.

·  Evaluate complex defense department programs and issues in order to pass the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

·  Serve as the lead staffer for the Congressional Unmanned Systems Caucus (CUSC). Work directly with the FAA, the House Transportation Committee, and industry to promote the technology and further the effort to integrate unmanned systems into the National Airspace System (NAS).

·  Work with defense industry leaders to advance new technologies and ensure the DoD makes sound business case decisions.
