Summer Law Clerks – Senator Al Franken (D-MN)
The Office of Senator Al Franken is accepting applications from current law students for law clerk positions for the summer of 2013. Clerks will assist the counsels and staff of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law on a variety of policy issues, including privacy, antitrust, judicial nominations, crime, civil rights including LGBT rights, civil liberties, immigration, and campaign finance. We have a strong preference for 2Ls and 3Ls. This position is unpaid, but the office will support successful candidates’ efforts to obtain outside funding. Minnesota applicants are strongly encouraged to apply, but all are welcome. The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Majority Oversight & Investigations Office is seeking two unpaid Law Clerks for Spring 2013. The position offers law students or recent law school graduates the opportunity to gain substantive experience while participating in the legislative process. Law Clerks will assist Committee staff in conducting document review, policy and legal research, drafting memoranda, contributing to reports and preparing for hearings. Applicants must be current law students or recent law school graduates. Applicants must also demonstrate outstanding research abilities, work well in a fast-paced environment and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Previous experience in government is not required, but candidates should have a general understanding of the legislative process.
