Field Representative (Columbia, MO office) – Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO)

Sen. Claire McCaskill’s office in Columbia, Mo. has an opening for a field representative. This staff member would be responsible for representing Sen. McCaskill throughout the Northeast and North Central areas of Missouri. The outreach area covers about 25-28 counties. Field Representative/Military Liaison (Orlando, FL District Office) – Congressman Darren Soto (D-FL)

Field Representative – Congressman Tom MacArthur (R-NJ)

Job Summary:   Duties include Case Work for Veterans, Communications and Outreach.  Case work responsibilities include facilitating and coordinating  responses to a wide range of requests received from military and veteran constituents and providing liaison between the Congressman’s office and the various veteran’s organizations in the district.  District military / veteran case work will include helping constituents interact with administrative and government agencies by acting as facilitators, ombudsmen and, in some cases, advocates. The employee will be granted access to Internet Quorum for inputting veteran constituent information for the purpose of casework.  The individual holding this position is also responsible for keeping the Congressman current on issues of concern to veterans. This will entail researching issues and tracking legislation at the federal, state and local level.  The incumbent for the position must engage in communications with veteran constituents, both reactive and proactive. Responsibilities will include responding to letters, electronic communications and phone calls that are fielded by Congressman MacArthur’s district offices from veterans in the district. They will also be responsible for proactively seeking our networks of veterans and engaging with them and building relationships. This could include but is not limited to attending and joining VFW and American Legion groups or other similar veteran organizations.

It will be required that the incumbent work in conjunction with another field representative with the office. This will include presenting proclamations and certificates to veteran organizations, setting up mobile offices and attending events while representing Congressman MacArthur.  The employee will also be responsible for assisting in reviewing applications for service academies.

Requirements:  This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service and have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required.  Professional education through the U.S. military is highly encouraged.  Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Recent experience with and understanding of the U.S. Military and Department of Veterans’ Affairs structure, procedures, and policies.  Service-oriented, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability.”

Veterans Constituent Services & Field Representative (Portland, ME District Office) – Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-ME)

Job Summary & Responsibilities: This Constituent Services & Field Representative for Congresswoman Pingree will be located in the District Congressional Office in Portland, Maine, to include support to DoD and VA Congressional Aides in Washington. Primary responsibilities include representing the Member within his/her area of responsibility, including:

  • answering casework correspondence in writing or by phone;
  • managing DoD and VA casework assignments, including screening, referrals, and ongoing support;
  • helping constituents interact with administrative and government agencies by acting as facilitator between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies;
  • meeting with constituents, VA and DoD staff, and community leaders, and acting as a liaison between the Congresswoman’s office and District Veterans Service Officers (VSOs);
  • representing the Member at military and veteran events, where appropriate;

Job Requirements & Skills: The Veterans Constituent Services & Field Representative will be required to:

  • communicate clearly with constituents about what can and cannot be done on their behalf by a Member of Congress;
  • learn the laws, regulations, and intricacies affecting a constituent’s case as well as the procedures and structure of Congresswoman Pingree’s District Office regarding casework and employee obligations (as outlined in the Office Handbook and the House of Representatives’ Ethics Manual);
  • write effective inquiries for and responses to constituent concerns;
  • travel within the District on behalf of, and in some cases, with the Congresswoman;
  • travel to Washington, DC, on a limited basis as required;
  • maintain positive relationships with VSOs, VARO, and Vet Center staff in the District; and
  • perform special projects as assigned.

Additional considerations include a high school degree, with some college coursework preferred and military professional education highly encouraged. Field Representative (district office) – Congresswoman Diane Black (R-TN)

SUMMARY:

The Field Representative monitors and updates the Congresswoman and District Director on district and local issues. This position acts as a liaison to federal, district, and local agencies for the Congresswoman and constituents. This Field Representative works out of the Congresswoman’s district office in Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

•  Acts as the representative for the Congresswoman within his or her area of responsibility including, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies;
•  Informs the Congresswoman and the District Director of all happenings in his or her assigned issue areas by screening district media sources and interacting with constituents;
•  Acts as a liaison to local, state and federal officials and other persons or groups to form effective relationships for the Congresswoman;
•  Assesses constituent/district concerns that may require legislative action and makes recommendations to the District Director and Chief of Staff;
•  Monitors scheduled district meetings for the Congressman with constituents;
•  Develops and updates community events calendar for assigned territory.  Provides schedule suggestions and creates events as needed with issue specific constituencies.
•  Prepares weekly and biannual reports for the District Director on district activities in his or her assigned region;
•  Works well under pressure and handles stress;
•  Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and weekends; and
•  Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

•  A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the political science or a related field, including strong academic credentials. Additionally, two to three years, at a senior level, in legislation and/or campaign management.

• Maintains a good working relationship with the Congressman, staff, and constituents;
• Works well under pressure and handles stress;
• Works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and weekends; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in the political science or a related field, including strong academic credentials. Additionally, two to three years of related experience training in management and/or legislation or equivalent similar experience.
