Assistant Staff Editor/Hearing Staff Assistant – Senate Commerce Committee
US Senate Committee seeks a full time Assistant Staff Editor/Hearing Staff Assistant. This is a nonpartisan position serving the administrative needs of all Committee members and staff. Job description for Assistant Staff Editor/Hearing Staff Assistant: proofread and prepare Committee hearing transcripts under the direction of the Staff Editor; sort all incoming mail for distribution to full Committee and subcommittees; order letterhead and related supplies from Government Printing Office; organize and file all Committee hearings, markups, and printed documents for Committee; answer phones and direct calls to appropriate Committee and/or Subcommittee staff; act as doorkeeper and provide hearing room access and seating assistance to staff, witnesses, and members of the public; monitor Committee members, staff, press entering and leaving hearings; obtain documents requested by Committee staff from the Senate Document Room; make deliveries to Committee offices and to Senate and House offices; and assist with special projects. Duties include: proofreading and preparing Committee hearing transcripts under the direction of the Staff Editor; sorting incoming mail for distribution to the full Committee and subcommittees; providing hearing room access and seating assistance to staff, witnesses and the public during Committee hearings; administrative duties relating to Committee files and documents; answering phones; and special projects as designated by Director of Operations on Majority staff as well as Minority staff counterpart.
