Staff Assistant – Congressman Austin Scott (R-GA)

The Office of Congressman Austin Scott seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Staff Assistant to assist in the daily duties of the Congressman’s Washington, DC office.  Primary responsibilities are to aid the Congressman in regularly communicating with constituents by phone and accommodating visitors in the Congressman’s office. The Staff Assistant will also work with the office’s scheduler in creating meeting memorandums for the Congressman, scheduling and providing tours for constituents, and helping the Congressman with his daily schedule. The Staff Assistant will also be expected to assist the legislative staff with research projects as well as the press staff in compiling daily news clips. The Staff Assistant will be also expected to perform various office organization and management duties and may assist with constituent services projects including, but not limited to, Veteran’s Administration claims. Additionally, the employee will be responsible to perform other duties as assigned by the Congressman, Chief of Staff, Legislative Director and other staff members.

Requirements:  This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service who have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required.  Professional education through the U.S. military is highly encouraged.  Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Recent experience with and understanding of the U.S. Military and Department of Veterans’ Affairs structure, procedures, and policies.  Service-oriented, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
