Staff Assistant & Case Worker – Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH)

Job Summary:  The position is for a Staff Assistant and Case Worker to greet visitors, answer the telephone and answer constituent requests for general information and other inquiries.  This incumbent also monitors delivery and pickup of materials, maintains the front office, and assists with various administrative duties.  This incumbent acts as a liaison to federal, district, and local agencies for the Member/constituents and answers casework correspondence/verbal communications with constituents.  This incumbent drafts various ceremonial and other commemorative documents for presentation in recognition of people, events or dates of note.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:  The incumbent answers and screens telephone calls for the Member and other staff members and takes  messages.  The incumbent greets and screens visitors; assists persons who have appointments with the Member  or the staff and works closely with the District Director to ensure that the Member’s appointments are on time.  The incumbent acts as the representative for the Member within his or her area of responsibility including  answering case work correspondence, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and  serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies.  The incumbent informs the Member and the  District Director of all happenings in his or her assigned issue areas and interactions with constituents.  The  incumbent handles case work assignments, acts as a liaison to local, state and federal officials and other persons  or groups to form effective relationships for the Member.  The incumbent assesses case work for problems  that require legislative action and makes recommendations to the District Director and Chief of Staff/Administrative  Assistant.  The incumbent prepares periodic reports for the District Director on pending cases and district activities  in his or her assigned issue areas; continually screens active cases and acts as liaison with constituents to  ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner; maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories  of information of importance to the office and screens/refers cases, when appropriate, to other district offices.  The incumbent writes with clarity and proper sentence structure/grammar/spelling and meets deadlines for writing  assignments.  The incumbent maintains literature regarding the district and House offices for distribution to visitors;  manages recycling functions for the office; signs for deliveries and forwards all materials delivered to the office to  appropriate staff members in a timely manner.    The incumbent maintains the office answering machine/voice  mail and logs in mail.  The incumbent ensures that requests for assistance are directed to the appropriate staff  member in a timely manner; documents visitor opinions, including full name, address, and all relevant information;  performs general typing and administrative assignments;  sends, receives, and distributes materials via the  facsimile machine; meets attendance requirements as established by the office; maintains a good working  relationship with the Member, staff, and constituents; accepts performance based criticism and direction; works well   under pressure and handles stress.  The incumbent works a flexible schedule including long hours, nights and  weekends.  The incumbent performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:  This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service and have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.  High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required.  Professional education through the U.S. military is highly encouraged.  Excellent communication and organizational skills.  Service-oriented, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability.”

Salary:  Commensurate with experience.
