National Security/Foreign Policy Fellow – House Republican Leadership Office

A Republican leadership office in the House of Representatives is seeking an experienced student or recent graduate to fill the role of National Security/Foreign Policy Fellow. The Fellow will be a part of the office’s policy team, which supports the leadership and district activities of a member of House GOP leadership, and will report directly to the policy director. The Fellow is tasked with following a range of national security issues and periodically briefing senior staff leadership and the member on relevant developments. Additionally, the Fellow helps manage engagement with representatives of foreign governments, non-governmental actors, and think tanks, and plays a key role in the office’s priority national security and foreign policy initiatives. This is an unpaid fellowship.

The Fellow’s responsibilities include:

-Gathering and analyzing open-source information on a variety of national security and foreign policy issues
-Providing update briefings to senior staff and the member
-Writing weekly briefing memos on a range of topics
-Meeting with representatives of foreign governments, non-state actors, and think-tanks
-Coordinating staff and member level briefings on priority issues facings facing Congress

The ideal candidate will be/posses the following:

-Graduate or undergraduate student, or a recent graduate
-Academic or professional experience in foreign affairs or national security
-Military experience is especially valued
-Strong academic performance
-Excellent writing skills
-Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a team environment
-Interest in foreign policy and national security policy-making
-Availability for at least four months
