Legislative Correspondent/Legislative Assistant – Congressman Tom Cole (R-OK)

OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES

The office of Rep. Tom Cole is seeking an individual to manage the Congressman’s legislative correspondence in a timely manner, including responding to constituent letters. In addition, the job includes responsibility for systems administration in conjunction with outside vendors and House support offices. There is some legislative and policy work related to the committees of special interest to the member, including, but not limited to Education, STEM, and Telecommunication issues. The LC/LA is expected to take meetings and pursue the legislative goals of the Member in consultation with the Legislative Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an ideal position for someone who has completed a Staff Assistant or similar position, has Hill experience in a member or committee office, and who can immediately execute Legislative Correspondent duties but who is also interested in additional legislative assistant responsibilities.  The position will also have substantial responsibility for managing incoming correspondence, therefore the candidates must have a demonstrated ability to write and edit correspondence.  Candidates should have at least one year of experience on Capitol Hill, including an understanding of the legislative and appropriations process.  Candidates should have an awareness and interest in the political landscape, the ability to prioritize issues, and to work well with other legislative and committee staff.  Ties to Oklahoma are required.
