Health Policy Fellow – Midwestern Senate Democrat

Office of Midwestern Democratic Senator looking for a fellow to work on health policy issues for a very active member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.  The fellow will participate full as a staff member and will work closely with the Health Legislative Advisor and Legislative Aide as well as with the field representative who handles health care issues in the state.  The fellow’s portfolio will ultimately depend on the selected candidate’s strengths and interests. Responsibilities may include handling issues relevant to the HELP Committee’s Health Innovation Working Group, such as medical product regulation, health IT, public health/emergency preparedness, global health, and/or precision medicine. Particular attention will be given to FDA regulatory matters (i.e. drug/device oversight).  The fellow will likely serve as primary participant for one or more issue-specific subgroups under the HELP Innovation Working Group.  Additionally the fellow may assist with health-related Budget and appropriations issues and other ad hoc projects.

Other duties will include participating in meetings with external stakeholders, attending briefings and representing the Senator or staff at public events; conducting policy research; tracking legislation and federal regulations; and preparing written materials for presentations, hearings, constituent correspondence, etc.  Strong writing and communication skills, professional discretion and confidentiality, and ability to work independently are a must. Position is full time (40 hours/week); however applicants interested in working part-time and who can commit to working a minimum of 3 days per week will be considered.  Start date is flexible and duration are flexible; however preference will be given to applicants who are able to start in early/mid- September and who can commit to working at least 6 months.   Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter and 2-3 original writing samples to with 222909 as the job referral number in the subject line.  No phone calls or drop-ins please.
