Health Policy Fellow – Congresswoman Diane Black (R-TN)

Rep. Diane Black, a prominent Republican Member of the Ways & Means Health Subcommittee seeks a Health Policy Fellow in her Washington, D.C. office.

In this position, the Health Policy Fellow will act as legislative and administrative support to the policy team as it relates to health care initiatives. The Fellow will provide research and legislative drafting support while achieving a basic understanding of health policy and the role of legislative support on Capitol Hill. The goal is that the Fellow will gain an understanding of jurisdiction, statutory origins, and the current and future environment for health policy. The goal of this fellowship is to raise the level of expertise of the candidate so that he or she can advance on Capitol Hill or in the health care policy sector.

The primary responsibilities of the Health Policy Fellow will include:

· Serving as a health policy researcher, fact-checker, advisor, and legislative aide.
· Assisting in the drafting of health related remarks and statements.
· Being responsible for weekly one-pagers on the most up-to-date and relevant health policy updates, changes, and meetings.
· Performing research and write memoranda and recommendations on health assignments, legislation, and congressional letters.
· Assisting in the drafting of letters and other communication to the Administration and other officials.
· Drafting background materials as assigned.

The office is seeking to fill the position immediately. This is considered a full time position, but there will be flexibility to accommodate class schedules. Duration of the fellowship can be flexible based on the candidate’s eligibility, but a six month commitment is preferred.  A moderate monthly stipend will be provided along with a blackberry for official use and transit or parking benefits. The position is generally open to recent graduates and graduate students.
