Economist – U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC) (minority)

The Democratic staff of the U.S Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC) is seeking a Ph.D. economist with substantive experience in applied macroeconomics and public policy research. Duties: Work collaboratively with JEC staff on a wide variety of U.S. economic policy issues; advise the Ranking Member and the Staff Director on all issues that come before the Committee; prepare briefing documents for Congressional hearings and other events; write or edit reports on a variety of topics; monitor and interpret key economic indicators; analyze the impact of monetary and fiscal policies; propose ideas for new research topics on issues relevant to the public policy debate; interact with House and Senate Committees, federal agencies, think tanks and other organizations and individuals; manage other staff on various projects.  Basic Qualifications: Ph.D. in Economics and 4+ years of experience in government, think tanks or academic research. Other Qualifications: Strong research track record in applied macroeconomics, public economics, or a related field; strong background in applied econometrics (e.g. time series, forecasting, panel data, and impact evaluation) and solid understanding in macroeconomic theory; excellent writing skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex policy issues to non-economists; proficiency in at least one of the following: STATA, EViews, Matlab, R; significant understanding of the American political system (Hill experience is an added plus).
