Job Summary:

The Office of the Clerk is a nonpartisan organization that supports the core legislative functions of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Office serves as the official record keeper of the House, disseminates information about the official business of the House, and preserves the institution’s art and history. The Office of Communications contributes to this mission by providing integrated strategic communications support to all divisions of the organization.

The Office of Communications is seeking a skilled design and multimedia producer to assist with the development of print and digital content solutions, primarily related to document design and layout, print production, and asset management. This position contributes to projects that include reports, posters and signage, brochures, audiovisual and multimedia presentations, interactive PDFs, illustrations, infographics, and e-books.

In addition to graphic design and layout, this position provides the opportunity to apply and develop a wide variety of research and writing, information design, and production skills. Specific duties include:

• Researching technology, equipment, and best practices related to the design and production of digital and print products.
• Managing digital asset libraries and repositories that include photographs, fonts, graphics, and project samples.
• Maintaining photography equipment, tablets and e-readers, and inventory of production materials.
• Providing production support on development of presentation materials, such as boards, signage, and event posters.


• At least two years of relevant professional experience, with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, or a related field is required.
• Advanced knowledge of graphic design practices and principles, including page layout, typography, color theory, image preparation, and document production. Photography, videography, and illustration skills are a plus.
• Intermediate use of Adobe software, including Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, and Acrobat; and proficiency with MS Office Suite, PC and Mac platforms, and latest mobile technologies are required.
• Strong research skills and proficiency in written and oral communications.
• Strong interest in the legislative process and the history of the U.S. Congress.
• Working knowledge of office policies, practices, and procedures.
• Must be detail-oriented, have strong time-management skills, and be able to complete assignments under strict deadlines.
• Must have the ability to work independently, innovate, prioritize, and multi-task.
• Must have the temperament to accept performance-based criticism and direction.
• Must meet attendance requirements as established by the office; have flexibility to work long hours, nights, and weekends; and accept overtime on short notice, when necessary.
