Caseworker (District Office) – Congressman Beto O’Rourke (D-TX)

Job Summary: The position is for a Case Worker in the District Congressional Office. Primary responsibilities are to facilitate and coordinate communication of a wide range of requests received from constituents and providing a liaison between the Congressman’s office and the various local and Federal Government organizations in the district. The District contains a large Army installation and a significant veteran population. District Case Workers help constituents interact with administrative and government agencies by acting as facilitators, ombudsmen and, in some cases, advocates. The Member currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Veterans Affairs Committee and the Case Worker would be responsible for keeping the Congressman current on issues of concern and systemic problems that may require his involvement to correct the situation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent for this position will serve as a facilitator between constituents,federal, state, and local agencies as necessary and as a representative of the Congressman Beto O’Rourke 16th District of Texas. The Case Worker must possess the ability to communicate clearly with constituents about what can and cannot be done on their behalf by the district office. The Case Worker will be required to learn the laws, regulations and intricacies affecting a constituent’s case as well as the procedures and structure of the Congressman’s District office regarding casework and employee obligations, as outlined in the Office Handbook and the House of Representatives’ Ethics Manual. When performing in the capacity of Field Representative, the individual will represent the Congressman at meetings and functions hosted by local agencies and groups to gather information on items of interest to our constituents, provide updates on the activities of the Congressman on topics of importance to the group, and report on recommendations and or concerns raised at the various meetings for review by Congressman O’Rourke. Additionally, the employee will be responsible to perform other duties as assigned by the Congressman, Chief of Staff, District Director and other staff members.

Requirements: This program is limited to veterans who have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, with less than 20 years of service and have a minimum 30% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs. High school degree required, some college courses preferred but not required. Strong communication and organizational skills. Recent experience with and understanding of the Federal Government structure, procedures, and policies. Service-oriented, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability.”

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

The Wounded Warrior Program was established to create fellowships that will provide employment opportunities for wounded or disabled veterans within the House of Representatives in Washington, DC and in district offices nationwide. Those selected for the program will be employed by the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer but will be given the opportunity to work in Member, committee and leadership offices and, if a fit is found, transition into full-time employment. However, full time employment is not guaranteed at the conclusion of the two year fellowship.
