Scheduler – House Republican

Scheduler/Executive Assistant – Southern California House Democrat

Southern California Democrat seeks Scheduler/Executive Assistant for Washington, DC office.

Responsibilities include maintaining the Member’s daily and long-term schedules, processing all incoming invitations and meeting requests, coordinating travel arrangements, and communicating with constituents by phone and email to address requests, concerns, and questions. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and extremely well-organized. Applicants should have previous scheduling experience (at least one year in a similar position).

Responsibilities also include driving the member (including nights and some weekends). A car and good driving record are required for this position. California ties and Spanish fluency are a plus.

Legislative Fellow – Congressman Keith Ellison (D-MN)

TITLE: Legislative Fellow
REPORTS TO: Legislative Director
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* to work on issues related to the economy, housing and financial services under the supervision of the Legislative Director.
* to monitor legislative developments within Committees and on the House floor;
* to write Floor speeches for the Member
* to draft constituent correspondence for the Member; and
* to meet with constituents and special interest groups on behalf of the Member.

* excellent oral and written communication skills;
* thorough knowledge of the legislative process;
* ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the formulation and recommendation of policy positions for the Member;

DUTIES:

* formulates legislative initiatives for assigned issue areas which includes:
* devising a legislative plan;
* drafting the plan into legislative form;
* planning, coordinating and scheduling introduction of legislation in the House (or offering it on an appropriate vehicle if it is an amendment);
* gathering support for a bill or amendment from other Members, as well as appropriate interest groups;
* working with committees on legislation;
* coordinating legislative support to get the bill passed in the House.
* tracks legislation and other developments in his or her assigned issue areas and briefs the Member for floor work, committee work, work in the district, and outside House-related activities;
* monitors legislative developments within committees;
* manage the Congressman’s small business portfolio and may work on other issues based on interest;
* plans and coordinates cosponsorship and support of other legislation;
* monitors legislation on the House floor, providing the Member with information on each vote;
* writes Floor speeches for the Member;
* if assigned to issues pending before a specific committee, prepares for and attends committee meetings and hearings with or without the Member (i.e., keeps in contact with committee staff and meets with interest groups and constituents with interests in such meetings);
* performs special projects assigned by the Member or Chief of Staff/ Administrative Assistant;
* meets with constituents and interest groups;
* answers constituent letters and helps constituents on federal matters; and
* performs other duties as assigned.

This is an unpaid position usually filled by someone in an official fellowship program. The fellowship is available starting in August/ September with flexibility on the end date. Senior Counsel/Professional Staffer – House Financial Services Committee (majority)

The House Financial Services Committee seeks a Senior Counsel or Professional Staffer to manage the Committee’s Capital Markets, Securities and Investment portfolio. This position manages a team of four counsels and professional staff.

The ideal candidate will have significant federal securities law policy experience, management   experience, excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal/communication skills. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and present well to Members of Congress. Additionally, the candidate must be able to condense complex matters into digestible explanations for Members and staff.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing counsels and professional staff, advising the Chairman and Subcommittee Chairman on legislative and regulatory initiatives, planning legislative strategy, preparing for hearings/markups and House consideration of capital markets legislation, researching regulatory and legislative history, and writing memos, briefing papers and other documents to execute the Committee’s agenda. A positive attitude, collaborative/inclusive management style, and a strong belief in competitive markets and a free market system are essential. Ideal candidates will have 6-8 years of relevant experience.

Legislative Assistant (tax) – Senator Mark Warner (D-VA)

The office of Senator Mark R. Warner is seeking a legislative assistant to handle the tax portfolio, which will include staffing his work on the Senate Finance Committee. The ideal candidate should have deep knowledge and relevant experience working on issues related to tax policy, including federal tax incentives, tax administration, and the congressional tax scoring process.  Understanding of the congressional budget process is also a plus. Press Secretary/Digital Director – Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D-IL)

Midwest member of Democratic House elected Leadership seeks an experienced, hardworking, tech-savvy and media proficient Press Secretary/Digital Director in her Washington, D.C. office. Ideal candidates will have prior on-the-record media experience. They will also have experience running a comprehensive digital media program including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and blast emails – all of which require being able to produce original graphics and videos. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to work effectively alongside the Deputy Chief of Staff/Communications Director to execute a successful communications effort both locally and nationally. Caseworker (District Office) – Florida House Republican

SUMMARY:

The Caseworker acts as a liaison to federal agencies for constituents and answers casework correspondence and verbal communications with constituents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Acts as the representative for the Congressman within his or her area of responsibility including answering casework correspondence, meeting with constituents, verbal communications with constituents, and serving as a liaison with federal agencies;
  • Handles casework assignments at the direction of the Director of Casework;
  • Assesses casework for problems requiring legislative action and makes recommendations to the Director of Casework, District Director and Chief of Staff.
  • Continually screens active cases and acts as liaison with constituents to ensure that their cases are handled in a responsive manner;
  • Maintains up-to-date files on all cases and categories of information of importance to said cases;
  • Meets attendance requirements as established by the office;
  • Maintains a good working relationship with the congressional staff, and constituents;
  • Accepts performance-based criticism and direction;
  • Works well under pressure and handles stress;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE):

  • At least 2 years of experience; strong academic credentials. Alternatively, 2 years of related experience or training in customer/constituent relations or equivalent experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bilingual speaking preferred but not required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Thorough knowledge of federal agencies and departments;
