Main responsibilities include researching legislative issues; drafting floor statements, constituent correspondence letters, and press releases; answering phones; organizing mail; covering Congressional hearings and briefings; providing general office support; and handling special projects as assigned. Fall Interns – Congressman Pete Olson (R-TX)

The Office of Congressman Pete Olson (TX-22) is seeking interns for the Fall 2012 semester in the Washington, D.C. office.  Day to day responsibilities include (but are not limited to) greeting constituents, answering telephones, sorting mail, leading tours of the U.S. Capitol, assisting legislative staff with projects, attending Congressional briefings and hearings, and assisting with press activities.  The ideal candidate will be a college student or recent graduate who is motivated; is detail-orientated; possesses strong organizational, communication and writing skills; has a positive attitude; and has the ability to manage multiple tasks and work well under pressure and in a team environment.  Texas ties preferred.  Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to email hidden; JavaScript is required with “ATTN: Intern Coordinator” in the subject line.

Correspondence Manager – Senate Republican

Republican Senator seeks Correspondence Manager to serve as a member of the legislative team.  The position will be responsible for managing and processing large flow of incoming and outgoing communications, working closely with the Legislative Correspondents, Legislative Assistants, and Legislative Director in helping to expedite appropriate timely responses, and managing special and routine projects for the Legislative Director.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, sorting and distributing incoming communications; data-entry into the Correspondence Management System; managing mailing projects; producing regular mail reports for Senator; editing response letters for constituent mail and executive correspondence; maintaining an organized archive of constituent mail; and other projects as assigned by the LD.  Applicants should have strong writing skills, editing skills, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, broad-ranging interest in the workings of Congress and knowledge of public policy debates.  Previous experience with Intertrac is preferred.  Please e-mail a cover letter and resume to email hidden; JavaScript is required with 221833 as the job referral number in the subject line.
