Fall Intern – Congressman Joe Heck (R-NV)

Nevada Republican seeks a legislative intern for Fall 2012 (August-December). Interns will work in a fast-paced Congressional Office, gaining valuable exposure and knowledge of the legislative process and the United States Congress. Intern responsibilities include greeting constituents, handling constituent phone calls, opening and sorting mail, and assisting staff with administrative tasks. Interns will also have the opportunity to conduct legislative research, and assist with correspondence, as well as attend some Capitol Hill briefings, congressional hearings, receptions, and press events.

Congressman Heck is an emergency room physician, and a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. He represents Nevada’s Third Congressional District, the most populated Congressional District in the nation.

Qualifications:

Interns must have a good attitude, strong work ethic, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Successful interns will be able to find information with little assistance, be able to work both independently as well as part of a team environment, and with strong attention to detail. Applicants should have working knowledge of current events and policy topics, as well as a willingness to do mundane tasks as needed. Third Congressional District residency preferred; however, candidates from outside the state will also be considered.

Requirements:

Interns must be able to commit to at least three full days a week (9:00am-6:00pm).

Legislative Correspondent – Texas House Republican

Law Interns/Externs – House Committee on Natural Resources (majority)

The Majority Staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources (Committee) is seeking law students to assist with oversight of Executive Branch policies and actions, and investigations into waste and abuse. These are unpaid internship/externship positions. The Committee can be flexible with hours to accommodate varying schedules. The Committee is seeking to fill positions for the fall. The interns/externs will assist in reviewing issues and matters pertaining to federal natural resources and energy issues and related federal agencies and entities falling under the Committee’s jurisdiction; including the Departments of the Interior, Commerce, and Agriculture. Health Legislative Fellow – Texas House Republican

Congressman Michael C. Burgess M.D., Vice Chairman of the Health Subcommittee on Energy & Commerce seeks a Health Legislative Fellow. In this position the Fellow will act as administrative and legislative support to the Congressman’s Health Policy Director and Health Policy Advisor. The Fellow will provide research and administrative support while gaining a basic understanding of health policy and the legislative process on Capitol Hill.  The Fellow will gain an understanding of the committees of jurisdiction on health matters, the role of various political/policy actors, the statutory origin of major health law and the ongoing issues in health policy. The Fellow will be encouraged to approach assignments from a legislative and inquisitive perspective, trying to predict the legislative consequences of potential policy changes in healthcare. They will also learn the basics of health and legislative policy, attend briefings/ committee hearings as assigned, assist in the drafting of Floor statements, blogs, Dear Colleagues, memos and certain constituent mail to delve into the details of health policy. There is room for the right candidate to grow in the position to assume responsibility for legislative and investigative projects. The ideal candidate is an intelligent, hard working, and committed person who writes and researches well and is interested in health policy and is looking to gain practical experience for a career on Capitol Hill dealing with health policy. Speechwriter – West Virginia Senate Democrat
