Press Secretary – Senate Republican

Republican Senator seeks experienced communications professional to serve as Press Secretary. The ideal applicant will be well-versed in responding to media requests, managing a proactive press office, and understanding the legislative process. Candidate should be an excellent writer and editor with a proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include: seeking out broadcast interviews, writing press releases, answering a variety of press inquiries, working with legislative and state staff, and supervising press office employees. Candidate must build and maintain excellent relationships with members of the Hill, national and state media. Hill experience is preferred. Candidates must be able to work well as part of a team. Legislative Assistant – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC)

Responsibilities include managing and handling issues that include but are not limited to Federal-District of Columbia issues, Federal Workforce, U.S. Postal Service and Labor policy. Other responsibilities include preparation of materials for hearings and amendments; assisting in the drafting of legislation, floor statements, statements for the congressional record, questions for witnesses; researching and analyzing issues; and answering constituent mail. This is a fast-paced office where the legislative assistant works with the Legislative Director and Chief of Staff to develop and implement the Member’s legislative strategy in his/her issue area. The ideal candidate will be a highly energetic, motivated and organized individual with strong interpersonal abilities who can manage multiple tasks, and work well under pressure. Required qualifications include a law degree; excellent writing, analytical and advocacy skills and the ability to work well under pressure are essential. Candidate must be a resident of the District of Columbia or be willing to move to DC.
