Duties include answering telephones and greeting visitors, collecting constituent information, researching legislation and policy issues, drafting policy updates, attending briefings and hearings, and assisting communications, administrative and legislative staff. Must be highly motivated, self-starter, detail oriented, and possess excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong work ethic, a positive attitude and have the ability to manage multiple tasks on a deadline. This is a great opportunity for college students and graduates seeking Capitol Hill experience. Virginia ties preferred, but not necessary. Congressman Dennis Cardoza, a Blue Dog Democrat, has an open full-time intern position for his Washington, D.C. office available immediately through June 1 (internship lengths are flexible, and students on the quarter system should feel free to apply). Duties include giving Capitol tours, answering phones, sorting mail, drafting/processing letters to constituents, and other special projects. Qualified candidates should have a solid work ethic and be willing to contribute whatever is needed in a team environment. Being an intern on Capitol Hill provides college students with a unique opportunity to see the legislative process up close and learn how the government works. Our office has immediate openings for the Spring of 2012 and is also accepting applications for the Summer of 2012.

As an intern in Congressman Guinta’s Washington DC Office, you will be an integral part of our office. An intern’s responsibilities may include:

Assisting with research
Assembling and inputting data
Drafting letters and responding to constituent mail
Answering and responding to constituent phone calls
Conducting Staff-led Capitol tours
Assisting with mailing assignments
Attending a variety of speakers, meetings, and hearings
Greeting constituents and visitors
Other projects are assigned according to interest
