Legislative Assistant (trade/foreign affairs) – Senate Republican

Interns – Kansas House Republican
The Office of Congressman Tim Huelskamp is now accepting applications for internships for Summer 2012. Interested college-aged students are invited to apply to serve the people of the First District either in the Dodge City, Hutchinson, Salina, or Washington, D.C. office. In the Kansas offices, interns may be asked to do a variety of things, including day-to-day office work such as answering phones, writing letters and assisting with media clips. In addition, interns may be assigned to assist in various constituent case work or work on District-based projects of importance. In Washington, interns’ responsibilities will vary. They will be asked to answer phones, run errands, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, attend hearings and briefings and answer constituent letters on various issues before the House. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. The Majority Staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is seeking an energetic, self-starting Press Intern with excellent writing and research skills, an interest in public policy, mature judgment, and the ability to work under deadline pressure. The Press Intern assists Press Staff in monitoring relevant press coverage and compiling clips, drafting press materials, updating and maintaining the Committee’s website and Facebook and YouTube pages, updating reporter contact lists, organizing press conferences, and other tasks. Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) is seeking an unpaid Press Intern in his Washington, DC office to begin immediately. The intern will be responsible for compiling press clips; helping answer reporter inquiries; organizing media events and press conferences; assisting with press releases, speeches, and talking points; conducting research; managing social media; and assisting the communications staff with day-to-day operations. Successful applicants work well under pressure, possess excellent written and oral communications skills, are proactive, and are eager to learn. Previous experience in public relations or journalism is helpful, but not required. The Press Intern will be required to work at least three days per week and commit to a minimum of three-months.
