Assistant Counsel, Office of General Counsel – U.S. House of Representatives

The Office of General Counsel ( OGC ) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Counsel. Minimum Requirements: (1) excellent academic credentials: (2) at least five years of legal experience (including substantial federal court motions practice and/or appellate experience); (3) excellent writing, analytical and people skills; (4) non-partisan temperament, i.e., ability to work with, and to provide highest possible quality legal advice and representation to, House Members, committees, officers and employees, without regard to their political affiliation; (5) appreciation of or at least desire to learn about and understand the role and functioning of the legislative branch. The Assistant Counsel will draft pleadings and appellate briefs; perform legal research and analysis; advise and counsel House Members, committees, officers and employees; gather facts necessary to permit OGC to provide sound legal advice; interact with House leadership, committees and other House offices; interact with opposing counsel (both government and private); appear in court as necessary; assist in administering OGC; and work closely with other OGC attorneys in performing all these functions. Salary commensurate with experience.

Intern – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT)

Active subcommittee ranking member seeks full-time intern to work in her fast-paced, team-oriented Washington, D.C. office starting in late January.  The internship is unpaid. Though many intern duties are administrative, there will be many opportunities to take on additional responsibility.  Candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent communication skills.  Duties will include drafting constituent mail, legislative research, answering phones, opening and sorting mail, scheduling tours of various federal buildings, conducting tours of the Capitol building, and attending hearings.  This internship will offer an exciting glimpse into how a congressional office operates, and familiarize the intern with Capitol Hill.   CT ties are a plus but not required.  E-mail resume and a short writing sample to todd.sloves@mail.house.gov by January 17.

Communications Director – California House Democrat

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) seeks pro-active and aggressive Communications Director.  Duties include: managing all communications with the press, maintenance and updating of Member’s website and Facebook page, preparation of a weekly e-newsletter, management of direct mail program, and staffing of Congressional Caucus for the Freedom of the Press.  This is not an entry-level position.  Superb written and oral communications skills are a necessity and Capitol Hill experience and / or California ties a plus.
