Communications Director – Southern Democratic Senator

Southern moderate Democratic Senator seeks experienced Communications Director to lead media and public outreach efforts in a fast-paced communications office. Working directly with the Senator and other members of the management team, the Communications Director is responsible for the development and implementation of integrated strategies to achieve the Senator’s policy and communications goals. This includes outreach plans for the media, key stakeholders, and the general public. Duties include managing activities of a six-member communications team, including communicating the Senator’s committee work; supervising and help writing communications collateral, including press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, talking points, and speeches; leading communications team to identify and plan media events in Washington D.C. and in the state; cultivating and maintaining meaningful relationships with members of the state and national media; working with third party validators, stakeholders and surrogates to ensure that there is an echo chamber of the Senator’s key messages; supervising new media communications, including website, Facebook, and You Tube activities; and providing input to the legislative team’s response to constituent mail. Ideal candidates for this Washington D.C.-based position have a minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience; political and extensive on-the-record experience preferred. Conservative, but pragmatic, Freshman Republican seeking an experienced press secretary for DC office.  Would work closely with the Member, Chief of Staff and legislative staff on messaging and branding strategy.
