Proctor – House Page Program
House Pages live, work, and study in Washington, D.C. Pages attend the House Page School in addition to working as support staff to the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Proctors ensure the residential life experience fosters the academic, health, safety, and welfare of the House Pages and create a rich, meaningful, and rewarding Page experience.
The Proctors are responsible for supervising up to 72 high school juniors living in the Page Residence Hall while serving as a Page. Each Proctor meets the needs of the Pages by fostering and preserving a safe, healthy and vibrant living environment in the Residence Hall. A Proctor works on a 40-hour per week duty rotation to provide 24-hour leadership and supervision of Page activities. While on duty, a Proctor is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive residential life experience by monitoring the Page Residence Hall, supervising and leading Page activities, responding appropriately to emergencies, ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures, and providing office coverage.
Acting in an in loco parentis capacity is a critical component of the Proctors’ responsibilities. All Proctors must reside in the Page Residence Hall and are provided fully-furnished accommodations. Approximately 18-25 Pages reside on each Proctor’s hall. Proctors can expect to be asked to work occasional overtime hours.
A Proctor is under the direct supervision of the Director of Residential Life.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field and experience with high school students is required; a Master’s degree or graduate coursework and experience in a residential school environment are preferred. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to working with high school juniors, an ability to work flexible and extended hours as needed, and possess strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
